how to find a good event planner

Tips from a professional on how to find a good event planner:

1) Don’t just google “event planners” but really look at those reviews. What are they SAYING? What are they NOT saying? Think about what’s important to YOU and see if these reviews are saying anything that is actually important to you, not just to them. Additionally, you want to review them in a way where you can tell if they’re really new and just having their friends write testimonials or if they are legit.

2) Their brand and image says everything about their mindset. We get a ton of comments about the name, “Smiling Through Chaos” and how clever it is. It could’ve easily just been, “Events with Amanda” or “NJ Event Planning” but it had to display creativity, wit and customization all over it. So those were never even considered. It had to MEAN something.

3) Ask questions and see how professionally they answer. Do they ask you questions back and what type of questions that show they have experience? You’re choosing each other - this should be an easy relationship formed. It has to fit because you’ll be counting on the Planner to be your representative and create a vision that speaks to you.

4) If they’re cheaper than everyone else, there is usually a reason. They could have been a big deal years ago in the industry but aren’t anymore. They could be very new. They could only include one meeting or conversation. If price is most important and you don’t care about service or quality, go for the cheapest; otherwise, look at the investment as just that - a true investment into your mental and emotional well being throughout the planning experience, into the WOW factor, into the service, and into the relationship being built.
