Sometimes being sweet goes so far
When I first met sweet Erin Hill I felt such a sense of calm and beauty from her. And then I heard her music! When I tell you that I would LOVE to lay down for savasana (Come on yogis!) and listen to her music for an hour a day, I would NOT be exaggerating. And if I could just stare at her playing her magical harp at weddings, ...well I wouldn't be doing my job, would I?! :)
There are many musicians out there, but what I love about Erin's work is that she plays musical instruments such as the harp AND sings, and she does all so well that she has performed on Broadway, in television and film, and even live with singers like Kanye West, Enya, moby, Cyndi Lauper, and others,...and somehow she has stayed so humble. She creates rock and pop arrangements and really plays from the soul. That's her specialty and what really sets her apart. There are not many who can say they do songs from Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald on up through the classic rock of the 60’s and 70’s, to the awesome 80’s, and up to Adele, Alicia Keys, Radiohead, U2, John Legend, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, you name it. Originally from Kentucky, Erin has definitely broken the mold!
If you're interested in purchasing her new album, “Harp Town," which came out last year on Cleopatra Records and includes her harp & voice arrangements of Sinatra, Beatles, Lady Gaga, Adele, Radiohead, Rihanna, U2, Roxy Music, 'Til Tuesday, Leonard Cohen, Alicia Keys, and others, here are the links!
When I asked Erin her most memorable experience, one of them is just a wow story that I have to share!
She plays for wedding proposals as well, and for one of them, she brought all of her gear up into the apartment. When she walked in, the man who was going to propose had set candles all over the floor going up to the harp. His girlfriend would be coming home with their two little Pomeranian dogs, and the moment she opened the door with her dogs, Erin started playing their special song. She was so surprised, and he proposed...all wonderful...she said yes... now here is where the story gets a bit...well you will see...
She went to fix herself up to get ready for their dinner reservations while Erin kept playing and singing. Erin started to smell smoke but didn't want to say anything because she wasn't sure, until she stopped playing and they looked at each other and asked, "Do you smell smoke?" They didn't know what it was, until they looked at the dogs and one had stuck his tail in the candle and was on fire! He quickly took the little dog and stuck it in the sink to put out the fire. They breathed a sigh of relief. She still smelled smoke and said something. The other dog was on fire too! Erin took on another role that night and started putting out the candles while he made sure the dogs were okay. When she came out and said she was ready to go, she asked why the candles were out and they both said, "Oh, no reason." Now THAT is a proposal story!
